Something funny about the productivity sites?
The people who visit them most are already pretty organized, productive, driven, type-A folks.
They alphabetize things for fun.
This is a different place.
This is a place for the rest of us.
This is productivity for the rest of us.
The misfits. The dreamers. The artists. The entrepreneur who can’t decide which great idea to follow through on, so he doesn’t follow through on any of them. The small business owner who is swamped with day-to-day emergencies and piles of bills due yesterday. The freelancers who are too overwhelmed with getting clients, keeping up with clients, and getting a break from clients to bother filing taxes and organizing paperwork. The crafty mama who’s got a business on her hands all of a sudden, and has to manage crafting, a business, a family, and find time to sleep.
The focus here is getting ourselves – and all the other freakish, independent, off-the-beaten-track, hear-a-different-drummer folks – to our most productive so that we can be at our most creative and most efficient.
The end result being that
- we get to finish that creative work we love;
- we get to mark things as complete;
- we get to take some of our myriad schemes & ideas & ventures all the way to completion;
- we get to achieve success that other people recognize (in other words, make money); and
- we get to do so while still being our freakish, independent, creative, unique selves.
What’s it to you? …Everything.
If any of that reaches you, if you’re nodding your head, relating on a level of who you are, then our only job now is to convince you that being productive (freakishly productive) is in your best interest as an artist, or crafter, or small business owner, or freelancer, or writer, or blogger, or novelist, or illustrator, or designer, or family business owner, or marketer, or visionary, or entrepreneur, or whatever term you’ve assigned to yourself.
The common theme for all of us is here, in these four goals. We want to
- produce creative work that is
- of value to us and others and
- enables us to be financially successful which means that
- we can live the independent, freakishly fun & unique lives we want to live.
The ‘freakishly productive’ thing is key to all four of those goals becoming reality.
1: in order to produce, you have to be productive
2: in order to get that creative work from vision to reality you have to be productive
3: in order to get that creative work from vision to reality to market you have to be productive
4: in order to handle the administrative work of a business and the work of creating, you have to be freakishly productive
We are people who want, who demand, more out of life.
That’s great. Well we should; but in order to get more, we have to give more.
If we want to achieve those dreams, live the kind of lives we imagine, do the work we dream about, we have to work harder, work smarter, work faster, work better, do more and do it a higher level than the people who are okay with mediocre lives.
Give mediocrity and that’s what you’ll get.
Give it your all, and you’ll get it compounded back to you.
